One of my favorite things about clothes is how you can pair pieces from completely different decades to create a whole new statement. For this look I took a deep dusty blue blazer and paired it with a bold printed shirt dress. Instead of wearing the dress as a dress however, I left it unbuttoned, styled it as a cardigan, and wore a little black dress underneath. Forever and always layers will be one of favorite things. I feel they add so much contrast and fun to any outfit, and this one is no exception. Moving downward, I added some super shiny pointed black heels and some black tights. For accessories I used my favorite red bag and some handmade jewelry I got a few years ago from an artist friend. The jewelry isn’t super prominent in the overall look, so I did add a shot of the earrings and necklace below for your viewing pleasure.

Usually when I see 70’s style blazers like this one, I end up cutting out the shoulder pads when I get them home. However, with this blazer I actually love it as is. Somehow I don’t feel too boxy with the shoulder pads, but rather love the dynamic and shape they add to the outfit. Keeping the shoulder pads in has definitely changed how the outfit moves, but I still love the way it wears. The black and white shirt, I found in a box of my moms old clothes and I immediately snatched it for my closet. Again, I love layers and these two items together make me so happy, I simply can’t get enough of those mix-n-match oversized vibes.
Keeping the rest of look all black allows for there to be focused attention on the bolder pieces without looking too busy. The layers create movement in the look while the simplicity of the little black dress and tights show there is a person underneath the boxy structure. The high heels add a little feminine touch to the masculine edge, and the jewelry brings a little artistic flare to the overall aesthetic. Adding a little bit more color with the red statement bag gives the outfit more density, and pop as well. This outfit gives me 70’s and 80’s vibes because of the layers and different decades the pieces were popular. Pairing them together reminds me of the 60’s because of how women were wearing more menswear type clothing at that time. Of course this outfit could be worn numerous places and on many occasions, but I like to think that it has a professional appeal that could potentially inspire more bold and colorful professional looks. Ones that don’t feel drab or toned down as some business attire can be.

Make up, while completely optional like everything in style and expression, is a big part of my personal style and how I like to express myself. In this look I feel it is an integral detail, pulling all the pieces together. I really wanted to add some color and funkiness. So, I created a transitioning orange, red, and blue eye to freshen and spice everything up.
A lot of the time I love to curl or straighten my hair but for this look I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. My natural hair is sometimes more straight than wavy, sometimes more wavy than straight. It can be half curly, half straight, or just whole crazy, –it really depends on the day. On this particular day though, I was feeling the messy curly style that it naturally has so I left it alone and let it add to the layers of the outfit. I think this look is easy to recreate with any layers you could find at home or at a thrift store. Throw some loose pieces with some fitted ones and some classic heels, ya can’t go wrong! If you wanted to look more casual, lose the blazer and add a funky faux fur coat or a vest! Maybe throw in some cute tennis shoes or boots? It would totally work, and look amazing!
